Our Projects

Godhra Cremation Facility

2015-2016 & 2020

This century old facility was operated using wood for cremations until 2016. We donated the funds to construct a gas operated alternative and dedicated it to the people of Godhra. It initially ran on propane gas cylinders, but in 2020 the city of Godhra was linked to an underground gas pipeline and this facility was one of the first to be connected, eliminating the need for gas cylinders. The facility is operated by Godhra Municipality Cremation Facility Committee. A nominal fee is charged to cover the operating cost, but we make annual donations to accommodate those families who cannot afford the cost. This facility has been especially useful through the COVID pandemic handling multiple cremations (6 - 8) daily and has been a big help to the people of Godhra as it serves to enable a healthier and more environmentally friendly cremation option for the community.

Healthcare Initiatives

2017 & 2020-2021

In collaboration with Rotary Club International, Rotary Club of Godhra and Quincy, Florida, the Ratilal Desai Family, the Kantilal Amritlal Shah Family and other well-wishers we provided funding to the Mirani Hospital in Godhra to provide low-cost healthcare services to the underserved rural population.

Through our funding, in 2017 the hospital purchased eye surgery and kidney dialysis equipment and freezer boxes in lieu of a morgue facility. Approximately 550 dialyses are performed monthly. A government insurance program bears the majority of the costs enabling the rural population to save considerably on travel and treatment costs.

In 2020 & 2021 we provided funding for three rooms of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) equipment. We embarked on this project due to the urgent need during the COVID Pandemic. One of the donated rooms was provided by Maganlal Mody’s family, friends and well-wishers and was dedicated in the memory of Rameshbhai and Suryaben Mody, who passed away due to complications from COVID-19.

Educational Initiatives

2016, 2019-2020, 2022 & 2023

Educational Support to Students

Since 2011 our family has been supporting North Royalton High School graduates with annual college scholarships for students that demonstrate leadership skills and contribute to the North Royalton, Ohio community. Starting in 2023, The Parvati Foundation has become a donor to this effort as well.

Scholarships for in-need students seeking a college education in states where our family members reside.

Support Teachers & Schools

Rural and urban school teachers in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Tennessee are provided financial assistance at the beginning of the school year to help purchase supplies, books and equipment (through DonorsChoose.org).

Cold water drinking fountains were provided in 2019 to Willow Elementary, an urban school in Lansing, Michigan (in partnership with Fase Foundation of Grand Rapids).

Waghjipur School Renovations

Waghjipur, a village about 15 miles from Godhra, is where our family migrated from in 1910. In 2016 we decided to fund the middle school building renovations including new flooring throughout the building, interior and exterior painting, necessary repairs and a separate bathroom for boys and girls. Nearly half of the funding for this project came from the proceeds generated from the sale of our family home in Godhra.

Mama Fadke Ashram School Renovations

We provided an infrastructure grant for a large water tank, plumbing and other upgrades for Mama Fadke Ashram Shala, a boarding school housing 80+ kids from the surrounding rural areas in grades 1-8, in Godhra. Our goal is to enable this school to become an ideal learning facility with modern tools and a fun learning environment.

Bahama Hurricane Recovery

2019

The younger generation of our family, born and raised in the US, took on this project in 2019. They raised funding through a variety show, and, with additional support from The Parvati Foundation, provided help to the victims of Hurricane Dorian.
